INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
It is my belief that through exploration and collaboration, your life can change for the better. "Courage doesn't happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life." ~ Shannon L. Alder.
I enjoy working closely with people and I am honored when they share their lives with me. I've spent my entire career walking with people through difficult times, mental illness and the challenges mental health can have on their life experiences.
I have an eclectic counseling style drawing influences from a variety of theoretical models such as Cognitive Behavioral, Family Systems, Psychodynamic, Jungian, Gestalt, etc. I take a holistic approach in treating the whole person, teaching mindfulness techniques and other coping skills.
Therapy has both benefits and risks. Risks may include experiencing uncomfortable feelings, such as sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, frustration, loneliness and helplessness, because the process often requires discussing the unpleasant aspects of your life.
However, therapy often leads to a significant reduction in feelings of distress, increased satisfaction in interpersonal relationships, greater personal awareness and insight, increased skills for managing stress and resolutions to specific problems.
Therapy requires an active effort and I will help you explore uncomfortable feelings, by supporting and challenging you. We will start where you are and go on the journey together.
The first 1-2 sessions will involve a comprehensive evaluation of your needs. By the end of the evaluation, I will offer you some initial impressions of what our work might include and we will develop goals and a plan for treatment.
